“Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart” (Psalm 37:4) . This verse comes right in the middle of a “trust” sandwich. Verse 3 encourages us to “trust in the Lord and do good” and verse 5 closes with “commit your way to the Lord, trust also in Him and He shall bring it to pass.” So what do you desire in life? How does one attain wealth – tangibly and spiritually? It starts with trusting in the Lord.
The primitive Hebrew root word for “trust” literally means to have confidence, to be bold, to be secure, to feel safe in a source of refuge and hope. Being a child of God, through the blood of His Son Jesus Christ, provides spiritual wealth with one simple process. Belief! Romans 10:9 states, “if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.“
God is a giver. He “gave” His Son to die on the cross so the human race could be reconciled to Him and reverse the curse of death, hell and the grave. Upon belief that all your sins are forgiven by the innocent blood of Jesus, God gives your a “measure of faith” (Romans 12:3). Telling an unbeliever they must have “faith” to “believe” is wrong and not Biblical. They must first believe in Jesus, who is “the author and finisher of our faith” (Hebrews 12:2).
Remember this in simple terms. Everything God controls gives. Everything Satan controls takes.
Believe and then trust in the Lord knowing that your are wealthy beyond any imagination with eternal life as a joint heir with Christ, who owns everything you see and don’t see. “The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together” (Romans 8:16-17). Revelation 5:12 exclaims, “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain to receive power and riches and wisdom, and strength and honor and glory and blessing!“
Now back to the middle of the trust sandwich, where God gives something else if we do this one thing called “delight.” After trusting in the Lord, scripture now implores us to “also” delight in the Lord – which means make it a dainty habit to pray and reference your Savior with a happy and merry heart. What is the result? God gives you the desires of your heart.
“What desires of the heart?” – you may be asking. Seek out His will and desire for your life and once they align with your heart’s desires – watch out! If something does not feel right, it is very likely outside of His will and desire for you. But once you are at peace with any decision, leverage will now create momentum because God is now with you 100%. Romans 8:31 sums it up: “If God is for us, who can be against us?“
